When I moved out of my parents’ house and into my own apartment I wondered what Christmas would be like. How would I decorate, how would my tree look and most importantly, what was I going to do without a fireplace mantel for my stockings!
The first year I placed a floating shelf above our bar. I put up some prelit battery operated garland and placed holly berry filler throughout the garland. I found stocking hooks that could hide within the garland and then placed a Bible open to the Christmas story on a plate stand.
I was really happy with the way this turned out and loved the display it made.
The next year I had planned on doing the same display but we moved and couldn’t find just the right place for the floating shelf so I had to get creative. In our previous apartment we had three canvases displayed and they never found a place when we moved.
Since we have three stockings (my husband, myself, and our dachshund!) I thought of these three canvases. I thought of painting them in Christmas colors but ultimately I found a beautiful wrapping paper that I was able to cover the canvases with.
The wrapping paper is stapled to the back of the canvases and twine is hot glued to the back to create a hanger. There is a nail on the back of the canvases where the stocking loop is placed so that it hangs well down the center of the canvas.
This will be our second Christmas in this apartment and I still love our stocking holders on the canvases!
