My Christmas decor matches the overall feel of my home by using lots of rustic/vintage pieces. I’ve discovered that my favorite style of home decor combines those two elements. For Christmas, I wanted to bring in a little glam to go along with the rustic. Nothing says glam like a project made with glitter! I decided to create three reindeer silhouettes with some sparkle.
I then printed out a reindeer stencil I found on clip art best onto 11×14 paper.
After the ink dried I outlined the silhouette in chalk. I tried to put a lot of pressure on the paper as I outlined a thick line.
Once the outline was done, I placed it face down on a piece of the mat board and pressed down and rubbed the entire outline with my hand. This created an erasable outline on the mat board.
After the outline was complete I filled in the silhouette with a gold sharpie, making sure to cover the entire image.
The reindeer looked complete and would have been finished for someone who didn’t want glitter but I wanted to step it up a notch for the holidays! I used two paint brushes, one large and one small to get to the detailed areas and covered the silhouette with Mod Podge.
Once a section was covered, I sprinkled glitter over it and then shook it over a card board box to get rid of excess. I did this in small sections so that the Mod Podge wouldn’t have a chance to dry. After the entire reindeer was filled in with glitter I placed the board in frames.
This project makes a bold statement on my wall and the only significant cost was the frames. It was great that I have had these frames for a while and they have been just waiting on a project.
Rustic Glam is what I’m calling my decor this year. Do you have a particular style for your holiday decor?
