I’ve been busy this week sorting through things my home office/craft supply closet. I managed to clear out the entire closet. While reorganizing my craft supply closet, I decided I wanted to create some decorative holders for various things. I didn’t want to spend any money though. The best part is that I had all of the items I needed on hand.
Given my penchant for holding onto jars, I had just the items I needed for one of the projects. From my stash of way too many jars, I chose four of the same style. These are salsa jars with wide mouths, so they work great for what I had in mind. I didn’t want anything elaborate, just something that would pretty up the space a little bit. I printed out words for the contents of each jar using a sheet of laminated burlap. I cut and wrapped each piece around a jar and hot glued it in place. Then I tied a piece of twine around the neck and tied it off into a bow. That’s it, cute and easy. They are large enough to hold clips, wire cutters, a staple remover, a utility knife, glue sticks and colored pencils.
I have a bunch of small glass candle holders left over from Gloria’s wedding two and a half years ago. I keep finding new uses for them. This time, I didn’t do a thing to them. We had wrapped a pretty piece of lace around them when using them for the wedding decor and that’s just how I left them. They are holding straight pins, pearl head pins, thumb tacks, rubber bands and push pins.
The large glass vase is wrapped with a bit of ribbon and lace overlay around burlap. I made a felt rose and hot glued it in place. This makes a great holder for scissors.
I had an old bulletin board that I’ve been meaning to donate, but I decided to use it for this closet project. I didn’t like the look of it though. That’s when the best item in my craft supply came in handy. Spray paint can change anything! I used gold paint and embellished one corner with some more rosettes. I painted the cork board not knowing if it would damage the cork. It didn’t.
I’ve had this wooden initial for a while now, thinking I would paint it and hang it some place in my office. I decided it would be perfect for the blank back wall of the closet. I also spray painted it gold to match the bulletin board because really, everyone needs a little bit of gold accents in their life, don’t you think?
It doesn’t take much to add little decorative touches to any space. These are all so simple, but when combined, I think they will give me the look I want in the closet. I’m looking forward to getting it all in place.
