While I’m going coastal with my breakfast nook and kitchen decor for fall, Gloria’s home has a completely different look. She loves earth tones and deep reds and oranges. She has a lot of gold accent pieces throughout her home. To add to her autumn decor, she wanted some gold pumpkins. Spare time is not something she has a great deal of, so I took on this simple project for her. All you’ll need is a can of gold spray paint to change inexpensive pumpkins into Golden Fall Decor.
I started with more of the same pumpkins that I used for my chalk painted ones.
I painted them using Krylon Gold Metallic Cover Maxx spray paint.
I’ll share a craft fail with you all. Once the pumpkins were dry, I used a matte spray sealant on them. My lovely golden pumpkins turned into dull beige looking ones!
I had to let the sealer dry and start all over again with the gold paint, followed by a glossy sealant. Lesson learned!
I added some upholstery tacks to a few of them and spray painted over them.
I used painter’s tape around the bottom of some of them and painted the tops with Waverly Chalk Paint in Cashew for a contrast in colors.
I’ve had this leaf tray for a number of years and I thought it would make the perfect tray to hold the gold pumpkins.
I first covered it with chalk paint because I wasn’t sure if the spray paint would adhere to the glossy surface. You could use a primer, but I didn’t have any on hand, so I used some inexpensive chalk paint that I had. Once that was dry, I spray painted it gold.
I think the tray and the pumpkins will look great along with Gloria’s other fall decor. She hasn’t seen them yet, so when she reads this, I hope she likes them!
Isn’t it fun to take plain and inexpensive items and turn them into beautiful decor pieces?

Is paint a crafter’s best friend? I think so! I’d love to hear about and see your fall decor makeovers using paint.
