Coffee cans can be put to lots of uses. I use them as great storage containers, to mix paints in and they can be upcycled and used as decor pieces. I especially like to use them for seasonal decor. Grab an empty coffee can and get creative!
This is a recycle of an upcyle project I did last year for the 4th of July. Last year, my Upcycled Patriotic Can had a different look. The first thing I did to the can after removing the items I used on it last year was to give it a fresh coat of spray paint. I used Krylon Fusion.
Once it was dry, I wrapped a wide piece of burlap ribbon around the can. I love this ribbon and I used narrow version of it on my Rustic Patriotic Wreath. I found both widths at Walmart. This is very close to being a perfect fit for the can. I overlapped it just a little in the back and hot glued it to the can.
I added a metal star by gluing the twine loop inside the can.
I wanted to fill it with red, white, and blue flowers, but I didn’t want them to be bright shades of those colors. I found some that were just right for this a Jo-Anns. They’ve had their flowers at 50% all month I think. These were all long stemmed and I didn’t want to shorten them because who knows what I might want to use them for next year! I just bent the stems so that they would fit inside the can and can be straightened if I want to use them as long stems next time. I placed some vase filler beads in the bottom to give it some weight.
It’s sitting on top of a corner shelf in my breakfast nook, along with some other patriotic decor.
Do you ever redo one project to make another one? I love to change the look of seasonal decor year to year and this was a great way to do that, keeping the cost of it to a minimum.
We party with some awesome bloggers! We’ll be sharing this at lots of these great parties.
